Premium wheat (BQG appr. 8) - bearded wheat
A variety for true specialists, good soils, and better preceding crops. Registered in Hungary, this is an extremely short, exceptionally sturdy, and very early-maturing premium wheat on par with ARNOLD in terms of quality. It therefore corresponds to the Austrian BQG 8 standard. Following unfavorable preceding crops such as sunflowers, sugar beets, or soybeans, this bearded wheat is prone to yield fluctuations, particularly in dry years. However, the variety is particularly popular among potato, rapeseed, legume, and vegetable farmers. For example, after the 2024 harvest, a potato farmer from the Vienna area reported: “CARLETTO was the only variety that reached the 15% protein mark. With all other varieties, I was only in the milling wheat range.”
