Hybrid rye
The new SU high-performance hybrid was added to the Austrian variety list in December 2025 and represents yet another significant yield increase compared to the current main varieties. SU ERLING also stands out for its balanced and very favorable agronomic traits. Compared to the widely cultivated standard variety KWS Tayo, SU ERLING matures significantly earlier and is slightly more nitrogen-efficient. In terms of lodging resistance and stalk breakage due to overripening, the two varieties are nearly identical. The highest hectoliter weights and stable falling numbers ensure the absolutely essential quality assurance even in the Mühl- and Waldviertel regions. To ensure pollination performance and reduce the risk of ergot during poor flowering weather, SU ERLING—as is standard for all SU hybrids—includes a 10 percent admixture of rye.
