Milling wheat (BQG 5) - beardless wheat
The new bearded wheat was added to the Austrian variety list in 2025 as the highest-yielding variety (APS 9) with the highest nitrogen efficiency (APS 9). In terms of quality, MATTHIAS is identical to the German E-wheat variety Exsal in almost all qualitative characteristics; in Austria, the new variety is currently classified as high-quality milling wheat. Agronomically, this new variety which has a medium maturity stands out for its above-average lodging resistance (APS 3), good resistance to sprouting, excellent rust tolerance, and top-rated Fusarium tolerance (APS 3). Due to its high yields, the protein content is slightly lower, comparable to that of the premium wheat variety Axaro.
