LUDGER

Hybrid canola

The new and extremely winter hardy hybrid rapeseed breed was registered into the Austrian Variety List in December 2020. In fall 2020, LUDGER was already able to convince with very vital appearance and extremely high tolerance of Turnip Yellow Virus – an important trait especially for semi-arid production areas. This disease is transmitted by aphids and was responsible for severe yield losses (of up to 20 %) in Austria in 2015, 2017 and 2020. LUDGER achieved the highest yields in the German LSV-trials in 2019 and was able to deliver excellent yield performance in Austria as well. The extremely nitrogen-efficient new breed LUDGER combines early bloom with medium-late ripening behavior. Furthermore, the optimal interaction of grain and straw maturation allow for an easy harvest.
